In the Geroskipou area near Paphos, police are investigating an incident involving an improvised explosive device that detonated at night in the yard of a residential building. No one was injured in the incident, and no damage was recorded.

According to law enforcement authorities, around 00:30, a local resident reported a loud bang similar to an explosion to the police, which woke her in the middle of the night. Police officers arrived promptly at the scene, but an initial inspection of the house and the surrounding area revealed no signs of destruction.

During further investigation, a plastic bottle containing flammable liquid was found in the yard, along with an improvised device consisting of a combustible substance and a firecracker. According to the preliminary version, it was the firecracker that exploded, but the liquid did not ignite, preventing more serious consequences.

As morning came, specialists conducted additional checks and confirmed that the cause of the loud bang was the detonation of an industrial firecracker. The bottle with flammable content was seized for forensic examination.

Police are continuing to investigate who placed the device in the yard of the residential building and for what purpose. The investigation is being handled by the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department.

According to available information, the owner of the house is a Greek Cypriot. There is currently no data on whether citizens of Cyprus of other nationalities, including Turkish Cypriots or foreign nationals, were in the house or were in any way connected to the incident.
