Cyprus police carried out large-scale overnight raids across the country aimed at preventing crime, strengthening public safety and monitoring the traffic situation. As a result of the operations, 11 people were detained on various charges.
According to law enforcement authorities, the detentions are linked to cases of assaults, thefts, property damage, illegal stay in the republic, driving under the influence, as well as failure to comply with court decisions on fines.
As part of the preventive measures, police checked 406 vehicles and 521 people. At the same time, 30 establishments were inspected, resulting in two administrative reports.
Particular attention was paid to traffic violations. Over the night, police officers issued 194 fines and also opened six investigations into serious traffic offences. Three vehicles were impounded.
The largest number of violations was related to speeding — 94 such cases were recorded. In addition, police detained three drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.
