A new case of illness linked to the cruise ship MV Hondius, on which an outbreak had previously been recorded, has been confirmed in the Netherlands. The infected crew member disembarked in Tenerife, after which he was repatriated to the Netherlands and placed in quarantine under medical supervision.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the total number of suspected and confirmed cases has reached 12, including three fatal outcomes. The organization is calling on countries to continue close monitoring of all passengers and crew members, and to maintain precautionary measures throughout the entire quarantine period.

WHO emphasizes that the epidemiological situation remains under control, but due to the nature of the disease, additional cases may still be identified. National health services continue to trace contacts and carry out testing among repatriated passengers in different countries.

According to updated passenger lists and the investigation, citizens of various countries were on board the vessel, including Greece — at least one citizen of that country has been confirmed among the passengers or crew. At the same time, no citizens of Cyprus were recorded among those on board, according to the published lists and official data.
