The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Cyprus has announced the launch of a new information portal regarding the water crisis — nero.gov.cy. The website will serve as a unified platform where residents can receive up-to-date information on water shortages, government projects, and resource conservation methods.

The portal launch took place on May 15 as part of a large-scale program to combat water scarcity, presented by Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou. As part of the initiative, authorities will distribute 3 million water-saving devices to the public free of charge.

The site provides information on the current state of the island's water resources, ongoing infrastructure projects, drought mitigation measures, and household water-saving recommendations. Additionally, the portal contains details about special equipment that citizens can receive for free.

Starting June 2026, the Water Development Department will begin the phased distribution of 2 million faucet aerators and 1 million flow restrictors for showerheads. According to the Minister, these devices significantly reduce water consumption without compromising daily comfort.

A pilot program already began earlier this year for high-water-consumption businesses. In the coming weeks, the distribution of equipment will be expanded to cover households, government institutions, and military sites.

Cypriot authorities emphasize that the new initiative aims not only to overcome the current water crisis but also to foster a culture of rational water use among the population.
