Cyprus police detain ten people overnight and issue hundreds of fines

The Cyprus Police conducted another large-scale country-wide overnight operation, increasing patrols in urban areas to prevent crime and maintain public order.
Ten people were detained during the preventive raids. Charges included illegal drug possession, robbery, assault with a bladed weapon, traffic violations, and illegal stay in the Republic.
Overnight, police officers stopped and checked 580 vehicles, as well as 744 drivers and passengers. Additionally, 48 establishments were inspected, resulting in three administrative reports.
Special attention was paid to road safety. In total, the police issued 446 fines for various traffic violations. The most common offense was speeding, with 212 instances recorded.
Furthermore, law enforcement officers conducted 133 breathalyzer tests on drivers. Two people were found driving under the influence of alcohol.
As part of the operation, police also impounded 19 vehicles.
The authorities emphasize that such coordinated operations will continue daily. The increased police presence on the streets aims to improve safety levels, prevent crime, and strengthen the sense of security among citizens.
