Fire in Paphos district quickly contained thanks to early detection system

A forest fire broke out in the Inia community area of Paphos on the afternoon of May 9, which was promptly brought under control in less than an hour. According to the Department of Forests of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the fire started around 13:45 in the "Agiazmos" area.
The fire was detected in time using an optoelectronic forest fire monitoring system, after which firefighting units were immediately dispatched to the scene. Thanks to the quick response of the services, the fire was localized by 14:20.
According to the department, the fire destroyed a small area of low vegetation. Six employees of the Department of Forests and two fire engines participated in the extinguishing efforts.
Authorities emphasized that the prompt activation of the early detection system prevented the fire from spreading to larger areas of natural territory. Specialists are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
