The growth of scooters and couriers has intensified road safety concerns

The number of vulnerable road users on Cyprus’s roads—electric scooter riders, e-bike users, and delivery couriers—is rapidly increasing. This trend is already significantly changing traffic patterns and creating new safety risks, experts and transport authorities note.
According to specialists, the development of micromobility has made getting around cities easier and has been a response to traffic congestion and rising fuel prices. However, infrastructure and traffic regulations are failing to keep pace with the new realities. Scooters and motorcycle deliveries are increasingly appearing on roads without clearly defined lanes, and road users often do not use protective equipment.
Of particular concern is the rise in accidents involving couriers and micromobility users. Experts emphasize the need to update legislation, road markings, and to strengthen enforcement and training so that new modes of transport do not become a constant source of danger.
