Tourist Train to Be Introduced in Geroskipou
The municipality of Geroskipou is in discussions to introduce a small tourist train that will run between the coastal tourist zone and the central square of Geroskipou. This initiative will offer visitors the opportunity to explore the area's monuments and attractions.
Andreas Siikkis, the Deputy Mayor of Geroskipou, told philenews that the train has already been imported to Cyprus by a private individual. The authorities are now negotiating a long-term partnership with the owner so that tourists staying at the hotels along Geroskipou Beach can easily travel to the town center. There, they will be able to visit important landmarks, including the Church of Saint Paraskevi, the Folklore Museum, the Byzantine Museum of the Paphos Metropolis, Kato Vrysi, and many more.
“The new municipality of Geroskipou, especially its capital, needs a complete overhaul. In recent years, it has lacked projects and vision. The heavy tourist traffic is concentrated around the hotels and beach, leaving the town’s many attractions almost forgotten,” said the Deputy Mayor.
The authorities are particularly focused on revitalizing the working district of the town and making it part of the tourist route. Plans include restoring cobbled streets, creating small courtyards with potted plants, reintroducing street lighting, and opening traditional cafés.
“We can transform this working district into an integral part of our everyday life. If our efforts to establish the train are successful, I believe Geroskipou will receive a significant boost and a fresh sense of vitality,” added the Deputy Mayor.
