Driver Caught Doing 160 km/h in 50 km/h Zone in Cyprus
A driver is set to appear before a Nicosia court after being caught by police for extreme speeding — traveling at 160 km/h in a area with a 50 km/h limit.
The arrest was part of a large-scale police operation aimed at preventing serious and fatal road accidents. Raids were conducted across the island, with checks focused on key road sections.
In total, six people were arrested during the operation for various offenses, including driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, and assault causing bodily harm.
Overnight, police checked 529 vehicles and 789 individuals, and inspected 28 premises. A total of 291 fines were issued, 109 of which were for speeding.
Additionally, one driver was caught driving under the influence of drugs and another for drunk driving. Eleven vehicles were impounded during the checks.
Police stated that similar operations will continue daily to improve road safety.
