Armed motorcyclist opens fire during police check in Nicosia
In Nicosia, early Saturday morning, an armed motorcyclist opened fire after police officers attempted to stop him for a check. The incident occurred around 4:15 AM and ended with the suspect fleeing the scene.
According to the police, a patrol noticed a motorcycle moving suspiciously and stopping near one of the buildings in the city. The police officers decided to conduct a check, after which one officer approached the rider.
At that moment, the motorcyclist pulled out a handgun and aimed it at the police officer. While the officer tried to take cover and call for backup, the suspect fired a shot towards the building and then fled the scene.
Additional patrols arrived promptly at the scene, but the armed man has not yet been apprehended.
As a result of the shooting, a glass window of an office building located near the scene was damaged. No injuries have been reported.
The investigation is being handled by the Nicosia Crime Investigation Department. Police are continuing the search for the suspect and reviewing CCTV footage from the area of the incident.
