The Statistical Institute of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has published the results of the labor force survey for the third quarter of 2025. According to the report, the unemployment rate in the country stood at 4.7%, and the total number of employed persons reached 189,791.

According to the department, the number of unemployed persons between July and September 2025 was 9,429. The total working-age population exceeded 377,000, while the labor force participation rate was 52.8%.

Men continue to hold the majority of jobs. Their share among the employed reached 65.8%, while women accounted for 34.2% of the working population. At the same time, the employment rate among men is estimated at 62.2%, and among women at 36.8%.

The largest part of the TRNC population still works in the service sector. This sector covers 75.4% of all employed citizens. Construction accounts for 11.5% of jobs, industry for 10.5%, and agriculture for 2.7%.

According to the report, more than a third of working residents have education below the secondary level or no diploma at all. At the same time, a significant part of the working-age population graduated from high school or vocational training institutions.

Against the backdrop of the published data, the situation in Southern Cyprus is noted, where the unemployment rate is showing growth. In April 2026, the number of unemployed there increased to 10,585 people, which is 10.4% higher than the figure for the same period last year.

Experts believe that the resilience of the labor market in TRNC remains one of the key factors of the country's economic stability, despite regional and international challenges.
