The second phase of the sidewalk project on Mehmet Akif Avenue continues in Lefkoşa
The Lefkoşa Municipality (Lefkoşa Türk Belediyesi, LTB) continues the implementation of the second phase of the sidewalk renovation project on Mehmet Akif Avenue, aimed at improving urban infrastructure and the quality of traffic flow.
The total cost of the project is 36,483,000 Turkish lira. Of this amount, 21.9 million lira is financed from the municipality’s own funds, and an additional 15 million lira is allocated by the Turkish Development and Economic Cooperation Agency.
As part of the project, 800 meters of dual sidewalks will be constructed on Mehmet Akif Avenue, which is expected to significantly enhance pedestrian safety and comfort, as well as contribute to more orderly traffic flow.
Simultaneously, work is underway to create a stormwater drainage system with a total length of about 1.2 kilometers on Ismail Beyoglu, Muzaffer Ersu, Server Somuncuoglu, and Mufit Guleroglu streets. The new drainage lines are intended to prevent flooding and water accumulation during heavy rains.
LTB notes that upon completion of the project, pedestrian safety in the area will improve, the engineering infrastructure will be strengthened, and the streets will have a more modern and well-maintained appearance thanks to functional and aesthetic improvements.
