Cyprus and Montenegro to discuss European integration and expanding cooperation

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, will hold talks in Nicosia today with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović. The central theme of the meeting will be Montenegro's European perspective and the further expansion of the European Union in the Western Balkans.
Following a private meeting between the leaders, extended talks between the delegations of the two countries will take place, followed by joint statements to the press.
As previously stated by Cyprus Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Milatović's visit confirms the strengthening of bilateral relations between Nicosia and Podgorica. He also recalled that a special working group for the technical preparation of Montenegro's EU Accession Treaty was recently established and has already held its first meeting in Brussels.
The Cypriot authorities consider this an important step in Montenegro's European integration process and emphasize that the Cypriot presidency played a prominent role in advancing decisions regarding EU expansion in the Balkans.
During the talks, the parties are expected to discuss not only political issues but also prospects for economic cooperation. The focus will be on trade, investment, shipping, sustainable tourism, and the organization of joint business forums.
The Government of Cyprus emphasizes that supporting the stability and European course of the Western Balkan countries remains one of the key pillars of the republic's foreign policy.
