Full Evacuation of Akrotiri Continues: 80 People Accommodated in Limassol Hotels
The Cyprus Civil Defence remains on high alert, continuing measures for the full evacuation and support of Akrotiri residents.
According to the latest data, 80 people — including the elderly, people with limited mobility, and families with infants — have been preemptively accommodated in Limassol hotels.
At this moment, no one has sought assistance at the Limassol Coordination Centre (KEN).
Additionally, space is being prepared in one of the region's schools to provide temporary accommodation and support for citizens during the night if necessary.
Civil Defence officers are going door-to-door in Akrotiri for the third time, attempting to persuade the last remaining residents to leave the settlement.
It is reported that a final attempt is being made to convince people to evacuate voluntarily. At the same time, current legislation does not provide for forced evacuation without the consent of citizens.
When is a possible return?
There is currently no clear information regarding the timeframe for evacuated residents to return to their homes. The situation remains dynamic and is constantly being assessed by competent services.
Civil Defence officers will continue their duty in the Akrotiri area until further notice.
